it's ridiculous how happy this makes me

something for the silures

so some friends in south wales are putting together a mens derby team and i asked if i could have a tilt at a logo for them, this is what i came up with.

the logo

the silures were the south wales tribe that held out longest against the romans. Screaming, bloody, woad covered, mentalists charging down tightly regimented superior numbers. they were the ultimate underdogs. I wanted to create an identity that had this feeling. I wanted to create something distinctly welsh but also different from the usual formulaic roller derby logos of a pin up with some minimal roller derby reference attatched. The silures logo is the goat major's skull over a celtic knotwork made of derby laces. To be honest i could babble on about the rationale and where I want to take this identity into kits and skate out flags and merch but for now here it is.

so this is still in development but took a first draft pass at this over lunch today, still to be finished with knotwork and type but thinking something like this

ok so first bit of news is that the helmet collab feel through. I priced myself out of the market. oh well. so in lieu of that to do I nicked the bomber's second helmet now she's using the first one I painted. I wanted to make her a suffrajets helmet and so that's what is very nearly finished. It's inspired by (i ripped the idea off from..) old cafe racer fuel tanks and their use of scalloping.

Also the axes are very close to being done, only a tiny amount of gold leafing and painting still to be done. (also i managed to get the bomber to do some gold leafing as her tiny steady hands mean that she kicks my arse at it)

and on that note here are some  pics of work in progress (as soon as things are finished I'm gunna take some proper photos)

these are a couple of little scamps i made for the lady to show her how i saw it. still to hear back but getting excited about doing it now

pistonheads

so might have gone ebay crazy and bought some mgb pistons, with no idea with what to do with them. Now however I have a plan. also they make a great totem pole for the car lover

an anti valentine's day present

so me and the misses don't do valnetine's day but as an injoke (following a random conversation at the V&A) i bought her a pair of hatchets as an non romantic valentine's day gift.
These are going to be custom painted and then mounted on the wall.

crash bandicute's crash helmet

 For oon's christmas present I wanted to make her something epic. Also as she had just moved down to london and joined the London roller girls  I decided  a custom helmet paint job was a good shout. So over the course of a month of after work and weekends and whenever  I could find time I made this.
its a custom enamel paintjob on top of a classic pro-tec helmet, using faux gold leaf for the lettering with orange and black striping (for the tiger bay brawlers she had left behind).

Eclectic set of bits and bobs on it, mainly for injokes.

Hopefully soon I can take some photos that do this helmet justice.

so it's been a while since i made a photoshop swatch pallete piece, so i made this as something to go at the top of my facebook timeline, i'll add the .aco file and clearer files when i get home this evening

I  love google analytics, after ages of nothing i found that a fair proportion of search traffic comes in via this old post. And if you search for "roy lichtenstein whaam" it comes up as the 21st results. sweet huh?

RIGHT so, every year I forget to do these to thank various epic relatives for the lovely shit they gave me. It skips my mind or I'm lazy and suddenly its august and I've never done them. SO this year is gunna be different. The bomber and I even came up with these little beauties.
