The South Wales Silures

... the boys keep going from strength to strength. From the masses of mixed scrims they've been taking part in, to making the backbone of the expendables team that took 3rd place at the Men's European Roller Derby Championships, they have now managed to get themselves onto the brawl street bash mixed team that is going to be taking on New York Shock Exchange when they come over,and to top it off they've got a new facebook page with lots of daggy illustration on it. What lackluster individual made those then. looks good eh? even if I do say so myself

something for the silures

so some friends in south wales are putting together a mens derby team and i asked if i could have a tilt at a logo for them, this is what i came up with.

the logo

the silures were the south wales tribe that held out longest against the romans. Screaming, bloody, woad covered, mentalists charging down tightly regimented superior numbers. they were the ultimate underdogs. I wanted to create an identity that had this feeling. I wanted to create something distinctly welsh but also different from the usual formulaic roller derby logos of a pin up with some minimal roller derby reference attatched. The silures logo is the goat major's skull over a celtic knotwork made of derby laces. To be honest i could babble on about the rationale and where I want to take this identity into kits and skate out flags and merch but for now here it is.
